On Saturday, the National Capital Area Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA) held its conference and chapter awards ceremony at Catholic University. Senior Associate Adrienne McCray participated in one of the six conference presentations, focused on improving access to bike facilities in the Ward 8 region of D.C. The Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) has advocated full integration of cycling into D.C.'s transportation system, which would allow bicycles on the Metro, more bike share stations, and more innovative cycling infrastructure.

In 2006, ºlai led the design process for the Ft. Belvoir Community Hospital, a project which has since received much praise and attention. This year, the hospital received Engineering News-Record's (ENR) award for Best Health Care project. All winning projects from ENR's 2012 "Best Projects" competition in the Mid-Atlantic region will be recognized in the December edition of ENR and during an awards ceremony on December 11th, 2012. Combining forces with JBG Companies, Cooper Carry, Perkins and Will and Pickard Chilton on the NoMa Capitol Square project, ºlai has undertaken the role of designing the urban streetscape. The project site is located a block away from the Washington, DC NoMA-Gallaudet University Metro station. The plans for this extensive project include a hotel, office space and residential units and will be built in phases.

One of ºlai's own projects, the Korean Ambassador's Garden, is featured in Diplomatic Gardens of Washington,a recently published book delving into the history and influences behind embassy gardens in Washington, DC. The book contains images and information about the various embassy gardens in DC.
Senior Associate Adrienne McCray is one of 20 landscape architects featured in ASLA’s Landscape Architect’s Guide to Washington, DC. ASLA partnered with 20 nationally recognized landscape architects to create a guide that would explain various sites in the Washington, DC area from a landscape architect’s point of view and ultimately show how the design of each site influences a viewer's feelings or interaction with it.

ºlai is proud to announce that Fort Belvoir Community Hospital has been awarded LEED Gold Certification. This is the largest healthcare project in the world to achieve this award. In 2006, ºlai began spearheading the design process for the hospital, which the design jury for the Fairfax County Exceptional Design Awards Program has praised as "sweeping and well-choreographed. Jeff Lee, FASLA, is among 75 architects honored at a special General Session, as part of the 2012 AIA Convention, titled “Architects of Healing.” Architects from across the nation said “thank you” to the colleagues who represented the profession’s highest values in responding creatively and compassionately at a dark moment in our nation’s history. ºlai took to the streets to celebrate Olmstead's birthday, to "make the case" for landscape architecture. Staked out at the firm's Pepco Headquarters project, Project LA's and ASLA members, Annie Varma and Will Benge, mingled with pedestrians to share the importance of landscape architecture, and what it is we really do.

The Yards, a project spearheaded by ºlai, is cited as one of the top 3 iconic city waterfronts done-right. The 42-acre redevelopment along the Anacostia River includes a range of green infrastructure features, already earning the project a Gold Leed Certification. Read more about The Yards here.
