Âșlai Project, Columbus Plaza at Union Station, is Complete / May 07, 2013

In November 2005, the ºlai team embarked on a comprehensive project for the planning and reconstruction of Columbus Plaza at Union Station. Columbus plaza, which stands in the center of a large traffic circle and major transit hub for DC visitors, features a memorial to Christopher Columbus and includes several prominent fountains. Approximately 7 years later, the rehabilitiation of this historic plaza has been completed.

New features include:

  • A redesigned traffic circle that allows vehicles to loop around the plaza to enter and exit Union Station,
  • New, larger sidewalks to enhance pedestrian safety,
  • An enhanced traffic-signal system that will lead to the more efficient flow of pedestrians and vehicles throughout the plaza, and
  • A less-obtrusive bollard security system around the perimeter of the station.

Âșlai Projects Under Construction, Nearing Completion / January 25, 2013

We are thrilled to highlight some of our local, mixed used and hotel projects that are currently under construction and/or on the verge of completion. These game changer projects are projected to be completed within the next three years: the earliest being City Center and City Market at O Street in August of this year, the Marriott Marquis in summer 2014, and Lot 31 in April 2015.

Washington, DC

City Center DC brings new life to the site once occupied by the old Convention Center, boasting six new office and residential buildings, premium ground floor retail, and innovative sustainable design strategies.

City Market at O Street includes a reconstruction of the Giant Foods grocery store as part of the existing market structure, new residential, hotel, and commercial development, elderly housing, and a new streetscape design.

The Marriott Marquis will serve as the primary hotel for the convention center in downtown Washington, DC, providing visitor enjoyment while preserving its historic presence at the prominent corner of Massachusetts Ave and 9th Street. The project will enliven the surrounding area with a variety of retail including specialty restaurants and outdoor eating opportunities.

The Darcy and the Flats: Lot 31 includes 40,000 square feet of retail and 250 units of luxury residences, and its design promises to provide opportunities for urban outdoor open space, a park connecting a bike drop-off area to the Capital Crescent Trail, a courtyard, and a garden.
